The Parma event holds special significance for Gauff as it was on the day she won the trophy that she accidentally broke it. Despite the tournament’s offer to fix it, she opted to keep it broken, cherishing it as a meaningful reminder of her journey.

Coco Gauff said, “I remember that was my first title. It was actually Maria Sakkari pulled out, got the opportunity for me to play. Obviously, I think she was hurt. I remember my dad telling me – I found out 20 or 30 minutes before the match – he was like, You can’t lose twice. We just laughed at it. I don’t think we ever thought we would win the tournament.”
